I've had the pleasure of partnering with Freshine Curtains for many rooms in my home and have loved every one! Custom curtains like these can completely transform a room and I'm excited to share some of my favorite tips on picking out the perfect pair.

The right fabric, fullness, length, and placement can make a space feel taller, more polished, and thoughtfully designed. But getting that elevated look isn’t just about choosing a beautiful curtain- it’s about choosing the right style for your space and hanging it correctly.

Start With the Room

Before choosing a curtain style, consider the overall feeling you want the room to have. Are you looking to create something light and airy, warm and cozy, or sophisticated and dramatic?

Think about the existing colors, textures, furniture, and natural light in the room. Your curtains don't necessarily need to match everything around them. Instead, they can complement the space by introducing softness, texture, or subtle contrast.

For a timeless, elevated look, I always recommend choosing a curtain that feels intentional rather than overly trendy. A beautiful fabric with the right amount of fullness and a tailored finish can make all the difference.

Hang Your Curtains as Close to the Ceiling as Possible

One of my favorite ways to instantly elevate a room is to hang the curtain rod as close to the ceiling as possible.

Rather than mounting the rod directly above the window, bringing it higher draws the eye upward and creates the illusion of taller ceilings. It also gives the room a more finished, architectural feel.

The goal is to let the curtains frame the entire window or door rather than simply cover the glass.

And when it comes to width, don't be afraid to extend your rod beyond the window frame. This allows the curtains to stack outside the window when they're open, maximizing natural light and making the window feel larger.

My Go-To: Triple Pleat + Memory Trained

When I want a classic, tailored look, my go-to is always a triple pleated curtain that has been memory trained.

Triple pleats create a beautiful, structured fullness that gives the curtains a custom, designer look. They're especially effective when you want your curtains to feel substantial and polished rather than casual.

Memory training takes that finished look one step further. The fabric is trained to maintain its folds, helping the curtains hang beautifully and consistently over time.

It's one of those details that may seem small, but makes a noticeable difference in the overall presentation of the room.

Getting the Right Length

Curtain length is another detail that can make or break the look.

For an elevated, designer-inspired finish, I typically prefer curtains that are long enough to reach the floor. Depending on the aesthetic you're going for, you can have them just kiss the floor for a clean, tailored appearance or allow for a slight puddle for a softer, more relaxed look.

The most important thing is getting the measurements right.

This is where custom curtains make a huge difference.

Why Custom Curtain Sizing Matters

Every window and door is different, which is why a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't always give you the look you're after.

With Freshine Curtains, you can customize your curtains based on the exact size of your windows or doors. That means your curtains are made to fit your space—not the other way around.

From the width and length to the pleat style and overall finish, customization allows you to create curtains that look intentional, proportional, and completely at home in your space.

Whether you're dressing a large set of French doors, a bedroom window, or an entire wall of glass, the right measurements ensure your curtains hang exactly as they should.

The Finishing Touch

Beautiful curtains are about more than just covering a window. They're an opportunity to add softness, height, texture, and personality to a room.

My formula is simple: hang them high, make them full, choose a tailored pleat, and get the measurements right.

And when you can customize every detail to your exact windows and doors, the finished result feels less like an afterthought and more like a true design element.

At Freshine Curtains, that's the beauty of going custom- your curtains are made for your space, so the finished look is uniquely yours. Freshine Curtains believes your curtains should feel like they were specifically made for your home- because they are.
