When we moved into our house, we knew this wall needed some love. It's the first thing you see when you walk in our home, so we started brainstorming on how we could elevate it.
After doing some research, we decided to do a DIY board and batten accent wall with wallpaper above it. It comes in handy when your husband is a contractor, because he knew exactly what to do, even though this was his first board & batten project. We started by stripping a straight line on the top of our baseboards so we could fit cove moulding on top of it. Doing this, the batten boards would sit flush against a flat surface, which made it look so seamless!
It took me a while to find the right wallpaper, but once I did, we ordered it right away. I knew I wanted something elegant and floral that would tie in the green hues we already had in the house, and this wallpaper from Amazon was the perfect fit! We pre-cut the wallpaper to the size we wanted and made sure to match each piece to the one next to it so it looked like one seamless piece. This was probably one of the hardest parts of the whole wall, but it wasn't too bad once we got the hang of it.
We installed the wallpaper first so that the boards would cover the edges well. It was a peel and stick wallpaper, which wasn't too hard to install, but it did take some trial and error before we got it. I loved this wallpaper so much, that I impulsively started installing it in our hall bathroom while my husband was still working on this board and batten accent wall. If you didn't know, I'm an #enneagram3 to the core, and this proves it.
After the boards were installed, we decided it would be fastest to spray the wall instead of hand painting. We didn't worry about covering outlets or light switches, because we knew it would look better for everything to be painted.
Here's the final result! Months later, and I am still in love! Adding this board and batten accent wall really brought this whole space to life.
The paint we used for the wall was Cypress Vine and the front door color is Sawgrass. Both are by Behr, which is by far our favorite paint brand to use.
